Visit the Top 10 places in Montpellier with Coach Charter Germany - your coach charter company
Montpellier is an exciting city in the South of France, an perfect spot in the countryside from which visitors can explore Provence, Camargue and many other beautiful locations. The city itself has no shortage of things to do, fascinating museums, cobbled streets and charming restaurants. This is our guide to the best things to do in Montpellier. Louis XIV may have had the greatest hand in Montpellier's history when he named it the capital of Bas-Languedoc in the 17th century. This put the city at the King's disposal and attracted the gentry who developed a neighborhood full of cultured homes. There are, therefore, many mansions to be seen in the large old town, as well as elevated monuments such as the Promenade de Peyrou, fit for the regional capital. When you intend to visit Montpelier with a team, Coach Charter Germany is your bus company partner.

Coach Charter Germany's bus company has been successful in the bus rental industry for more than 40 years. Thanks to our nearby bus depot, we will provide you with a variety of bus rental services. If you're wondering which places you should visit in Montpellier, here are some tips from the bottom of the page. Keep in mind that our Coach Charter Germany Airport Shuttle and Tour Bus Coaches are the perfect way to travel around the city quickly and safely.

1. Fabre Museum

The Musée Fabre is a museum in Montpellier in southern France. It was founded in 1825 by the painter François-Xavier Fabre. The collector and patron Alfred Bruyas worked here as a conservator and left large parts of his collection to the museum. It was extensively renovated between 2003 and January 2007. Hire a coach with the driver in our bus service to get in there.

2. Cathedrale St Pierre

The Cathedral of the City is spectacular; gazing up at the awe-inspiring towers is almost a dizzying experience. St Pierre's Cathedral is Montpellier's most prominent Gothic building, located right in the middle of the old town. This Roman Catholic church is free to visit and features beautiful glass windows adorned with a cross, a magnificent organ made of wood and gold, and a stunning altar. It was built in 1364, but it was only in the 16th century that it was proclaimed a cathedral. Don't forget to hire your own charter bus and driver for this occasion.

3. Promenade de Peyrou

At the highest part of Montpellier and just west of the old walls, this square was built during the reign of Louis XIV, but it was not completed until the middle of the 1700s because of the chaos at the beginning of the 18th century. There are other fascinating details, such as the statue of Louis XIV, which dates back to 1828, replacing the earlier version which had been melted down to manufacture cannons. A Bus rental recommend you visit the promenade on Sundays because there is a flea market under the aqueduct arches, based on the famous Pont du Gard.

4. L’ Écusson (Old Montpellier)

Ecusson means "shield" in French, and old Montpellier is called because seen from above, it resembles the shields that warriors used to wear. The whole Ecusson is surrounded by medieval walls that hide its charms. The old quarter of Montpellier is medieval, as this town is not of Roman heritage, like the neighboring Nimes. Montpellier was founded in the 10th century, but it became the seat of the court of the Kings of the Crown of Aragon in the 13th century. Here I was born King Jaume, who is the most celebrated son of Montpellier. The charter bus will drive you there.

5. Place de la Comédie

The square was first mentioned in 1755 and was named after a theater that burned down in 1785 and 1855. The Location became the focal point of the city when, in the mid-19th century, the Gare de Montpellier Saint-Roch railway station was built some 200 meters (660 ft) south of it. Around the time, the smaller train heading to the nearby beach around Palavas-les-Flots also had its roots on the Station. At the center of the square is a fountain, the Three Graces, built by the sculptor Étienne d'Antoine in 1790. Bus rentals at our bus company should make it easier for your party to get there.

6. Montpellier Cathedral

The French Wars of Religion destroyed the churches of Montpellier in the 16th century, but the Gothic Cathedral of Saint-Pierre survived despite severe damage. In fact, it wasn't always a cathedral either, as it began as a monastery chapel before the diocese of Maguelone moved to Montpellier during the reign of Francis I in the mid-1500s. The cathedral could take you by surprise, as it is concealed in the nest of the old quarter streets. The most striking aspect is the magnificent portal with its twin pillars, which are more than 4.5 meters tall. Chartered Bus would be a good partner to visit this historic cathedral.

7. Triumphal Arch

The royal entrance to the Promenade de Peyrou was designed at the Porte Saint-Denis in Paris and completed in 1693. If you're into French history, particularly the reign of the King of the Sun, you can take a little time to explore the inscriptions and reliefs of the arch and tell the (one-sided!) story of the main events of his reign. There is the capture of Namur in the Nine Years' War, with a figure representing the Netherlands bowing in deference to the King. You will also see a relief showing the constriction of the Canal des Deux Mers, a monumental engineering project connecting the Bay of Biscay with the Mediterranean Sea in the 1600s. Tour Bus will take care of your community transport here.

8. Pavillon Populaire

The spectacular Art Nouveau building, designed at the end of the 19th century, is located on the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle. It has been the venue of all sorts of public exhibits for more than a hundred years, but in the 1990s it was devoted solely to spectacular temporary photography displays, free of charge. Three exhibitions a year highlight the most famous photographers of the 20th century, such as Brassaï, Bernard Plossu or Jakob Tuggener.

9. Montpellier Zoological Park

The Montpellier Zoological Park is a French zoological park in the Occitanie region in the north of the city of Montpellier. The greenhouse was opened in 2007 as part of the Montpellier Zoo with a floor area of approximately 2,600 m². The greenhouse currently includes over 500 animals and 8,000 plants representing 300 species. Its species range comprises anacondas, rats, anteaters, armadillos, monkeys, boas, caymans, ibis, ocelots, piranhas, tamarins and tarantulas. The range of plants contains 34 species of palm trees, 15 species of tree ferns and 95 species of trees with plants of note including Acrosticum aureum, Anthurium ferrierense, Canna indica, Cattleya bicolor, Cattleya mossiae, Cephaelis poeppigiana, Costus cuspidatus, Heliconia angusta, Hibiscus elatus, Philodendron elegans, Philodendron panduriforme, Polypodium polypodioides, Tillandsia cyanides. Our bus company will make sure you arrive safely and enjoy your time with the animals.

10. Aquarium Mare Nostrum

On a rare rainy day, you can spend a few hours at the Montpellier Aquarium, which marks its first decade and has 400 marine and freshwater species in tanks totalling almost three million liters. The headline is the main room, 10 by 18 metres, the biggest in France. As far as biodiversity is concerned, you have penguins from South Africa, a wide range of sharks and rays, and a touch pool where little ones can find out what the starfish's back feels like. Chartered Bus by Coach Charter Europe will get you there quickly.

We are proud "users" of IRRO service for about 8 years. After working with different coach companies in the last 20 years, we came to the understanding about 8 years ago, that IRRO are the best.
